Topic: The Strategy, Successes and Challenges of Economic Development in Colorado
J.J. Ament, chairman of the Colorado Economic Development Commission (EDC) will discuss the tools Colorado’s legislature has granted to the commission to attract new business and facilitate job creation in Colorado statewide. The EDC commissioners evaluate, approve, and administer Colorado’s job growth incentive tax credit, strategic fund deployment, regional tourism act, and TV, film, and media incentive program among other statutory assignments. Since November 2012, the EDC has approved 124 job-growth incentive projects totaling 34,431 jobs*. Ament will share how he and fellow commissioners try to use data and analytics to evaluate the social and economic value and costs related to the implementation of the EDC’s programs, particularly in compliance with Colorado’s TABOR amendment. He will also discuss the state’s economic health and development efforts beyond the metro Denver region.
